Not every puzzle is for every person, and I freely admit I got this one only because it was in a Hoefnagel pack with one I did want. I like my puzzles to have color—ideally, more than one color. This wasn’t as hard as I feared; the tree and building sections are easily distinguished, and there is a lot of subtle color variation when you look up close. And the assortment of multi-piece whimsies is both creative and thematic. But ultimately I just didn’t love it. Something about the combination of blocky geometric pieces and delicate earlet connectors bugged me; I like earlet connectors fine in puzzles with delicate, swirling piece shapes and I like more geometric pieces fine in puzzles with bigger connectors like Cypress Lights, but here they felt imbalanced.

Many of my artifact puzzle reviews will be five stars, so the star deduction is mainly because I dislike limited palette and monochromatic artworks without a lot of contrast. But it looks like what you see, so I wasn’t really disappointed. My partner, whom I bought this puzzle for because he really likes high difficulty, was delighted when he saw it. In that regard it did not disappoint because all the greens, large size, and cut placement make it a challenging puzzle. It was also fun to have a central park New York theme and be able to pick out the different whimsies and park activity in the image together.

We just completed this puzzle for the second time. We are working through our old favorites because of the shortage of inventory right now. Basically, we enjoyed this experience more the second time around. This is one of our very favorite Artifact puzzles. We LOVE whimsy pieces, and, as advertised, this puzzle has a copious amount and they are very clever ones, so relevant to the theme. Then, upon completion, one can view many, many more "combination" whimsy figures that have appeared in the construction of the puzzle. This one is really fun, and we highly recommend it when it comes back into stock. You can have fun in Central Park without the even traveling!
