This is a 340 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of the 1562 Bruegel masterpiece Fall of the Rebel Angels. It's a battle between teenage-gal angel warriors and silly Old Netherlandish monsters. The puzzle was designed by Zak Erving with a regular grid of square pieces (the puzzle has a straight edge) with angelic/devilish connectors and whimsy pieces - to see example pieces click on the detail picture underneath the main product image. The difficulty is about average. Like all our puzzles, the pieces are laser-cut from 1/4" thick wood. Packaged in our standard pine wood box. Made in USA.

Review: I went into this one blind, didn't look at the image for help. Took about 15-20 days, starting slow with a few pieces here and there but dived in for long stretches towards the end. As the other reviewer mentioned, I too found myself a comfortable pace where each sitting was a satisfying one. The images that begin to form are wild and I found myself soaking it all in like a trip to the museum. I ordered the other Brugel puzzle as soon as I finished this one. I hope to see more by him here.

Review: In the end, it took me about 30 days to finish this puzzle. Why? Few of the pieces give any clue about which forms they are a part of. The border contains a piece I had trouble believing really belonged there. And every day, my cat, an avid oral puzzler, contrived ways to distract me from the task. My first start at completing the puzzle had ended with me pouring the pieces back into the box and silently promising to give it away. (I had joined maybe six pieces after eight hours.) Giving the puzzle a second desperate chance about a month into our pandemic, I ended up loving the pace that had originally frustrated me. If you like challenging puzzles depicting surreal scenes painted by the old masters, “Fall of the Rebel Angels” is for you.
